"pak" in the day: part one

Due to the fact that we jumped on the blog bandwagon so late, many ultra exciting things have happened in the past that may or may not interest you. We'd like to chronicle those things here for your reader enjoyment under a monthly segment we've cleverly named "Pak" in the Day.

For this first installment, we bring you Kayla's birthday. Like, her actual birthday, the day she was born! Little Kayla was a breach baby and was scheduled to be born via C-section on August 16th, 2006. However, she decided to forego the scheduled arrival date by making her appearance unfashionably early on August 10th. Liz was a little nervous by the change in plans, but of course Sam, being the laidback fellow that he is, took it in stride.

The operating room was a little scary, but because of the awesome doctors and nurses at Group Health, Sam and Liz were perfectly at ease. They were also very excited to meet the newest family member! Sam was especially excited to wear his hospital scrubs, which was the only thing we had insisted on in our birth plan. After only 45 minutes of suspenseful waiting, Kayla Grace Pak made her entrance into the world and the Paks took their very first family photo together, courtesy of the friendly operating room anesthesiologist.

The rest of the day was spent in what became typical Kayla fashion for the next three months. Vigorous eating followed by what appeared to be a traumatizing bath followed by hours of wheezy fitful sleeping. The baths really took a lot out of her.

It wasn't how we planned it and it wasn't what we expected but Kayla's birthday was really everything we could ever hope for. We are so grateful and blessed to have such wonderful friends and family who took care of us in those first couple weeks. Thanks, everyone for making what could have been a really stressful time so very wonderful.

liz and sam...

let me start by saying that you are wonderful parents...i cant believe its been almost 2 years now...i cant believe that im still up...lol...i cant believe that i missed kayla's first first birthday...i know how important those things can be to a person and especially to a young ling who may not know the difference now, whether or not you were there...its just a matter of what you got me thats most important...i remember being so excited and worried for you both...excited that you are my first friends that were starting a family and worried that you were ready or that you would be good parents...well the excitement turned into an overwhelming want when i saw how precious and tiny kayla was...and my worries extinguished when i saw how much love you both had for each other and for kayla...i was actually worried that i would not be a good uncle...i remember getting frustrated at michelle because i could find the hospital because i was so nervous...i also remember going to the florist and wanting to get everything that was in the store...of course michelle had the gumption to tell me no because we didnt have the account of Bill Gates'...i was just so excited...as michelle and i left the hospital i remember telling her that i was amazed, like a newborn, i had never been to a hospital for a birth before...it was the most amazing moment for me and it wasnt even for me...i also told michelle that i hoped that one day that we could be as happy and one day have a family just like that...looking back on that moment now...WOW!...boy was i right to be worried that i wouldnt be a good uncle...missed the first birthday, missed the first xmas, missed the first steps, and most importantly missed the first Mariners FanFare...:)...funny thing is that michelle never worried and she gets to see kayla more than me and she is the better aunt than i am as a uncle...i was worried for good reason, huh?
